Sailing is, therefore, the best way to explore this beautiful country, especially when combined with historical tours and other activities.
THE BALEARICS
The Balearics are the centre of for Yacht Charter in Spain. They provide perfect sailing conditions between Minorca, Majorca, Ibiza and Formentera. It’s one of the most popular sailing destinations in this part of the Mediterranean due to its mild climate and favorable sailing conditions, well developed infrastructure.
Sailing tips
The Balearic Islands are the perfect place for a beginner skipper to learn the basics of yachting. This is due to the low and generally predictable winds during the summer months and the relatively approachable coast. There are also large yachting communities which will make you feel right at home.
New marinas were built all along the coast, so allowing short sail away from one port to another. Comprehensive repair facilities are available only in the most important yachting centers.
Weather
Weather aspects are typical of the Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild but stormy winters. The best time to visit is during the summer months when the island enjoy up to 11 hours of sunshine each day. Rain is very rare in summer months. Winds here are in general breezy, 1 to 6 knots during the summer months and as strong as 15 knots in wintertime.
ATLANTIC COAST
Atlantic coast on the Bay of Biscay. This is area for challenging sailing. You should be experienced and good in tidal sailing – this area is famous for it’s strong tides, winds. Tourism is not well developed here, so basic knowledge of Spanish is a must.
Southern Atlantic coast. This area is still tidal, so don’t be caught out. The city of Cadiz and the surrounding waters are one the most historically interesting areas on Spain Coast. Tarifa is one of the windiest places on the planet (expect to see kite surfers and wind surfers on the long flat beach).
