Race Training Course

Have you reached a level where you do not seem to be improving and cannot quite understand why?

There is no point in having the best most expensive sails, navigation equipment, instrument systems and rigging if you do not know how to optimize them to the full. Spending time on coaching will undoubtedly give you a greater increase in performance than a new genoa.
What is the point of having the best sails if on the start line you are at the wrong end, get lee bowed by the boat to leeward and then rolled over by the boat to windward, therefore, at the back of the fleet?
Sugested experience:
This one week course is aimed at Race Skippers who have skippered many races and understand the essential skills and rules, but wish to improve their race performance , through enhanced coaching.
Coaches:
Peter Martin with over 15 years of International race coaching for Great Britain. Peter also coached the Indian National race squad with succes over a number of years for the team.
Peter Smith - Record holder in the 3 Peaks Yacht Race and veteran of numerous Fastnet races. Peter is a fulltime Yachtmaster Examiner in sail and motor.
Course Content:
During the five day race training course you will learn all the basic manoeuvres of racing yachts, including the different types of kite hoists and drops and when they should be used. There is a big emphasis on teamwork and the role of each crew member. The course is predominantly practical but there will be an element of classroom work looking at the principles, theory and tactics of yacht racing.
The course is carefully structured to encourage a progressive development of everyone's knowledge and skills. We will concentrate on starting techniques, upwind performance, mark roundings, kite hoists, kite drops, gybing, downwind performance and the basic racing rules. By the end of the five days you should be familiar with all the positions aboard a race boat and the interaction between the members of the team.
